Yesterday a bunch of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive information was released including some of the classic maps, and weapons available upon release in early 2012.
Most of the current crop of players are spoiled, with their kill streaks, perks, and very forgiving gameplay, But many forgot one of the starters to the FPS genre, Counter-Strike. This game is famous for being extremely difficult to get into, even more so if you go into it with your Call of Duty attitude, running and gunning like it’s a free for all. Counter-Strike is about teamplay, and you better play like a team, or you’ll be getting some nasty voice messages from me.
As most of you will most likely gather from the information to come, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is not a sequal, it’s more of a revision.
Suprisingly, unlike it’s pc counterpart, CS:GO will not have a server browser, it will have the standard matchmaking system. You will be put into a 5v5 room that will automatically fill up with bots of the appropriate difficulty until the room can be filled with live players. But those on PC will have the ability to make larger rooms with custom rules.
You start off buying your weapons and equipment which consists of your main weapon, which can range from your standard assault rifle, to an Sub machine gun, to a shotgun or sniper rifle. Then you choose your secondary weapon which will be a handgun. And your equipment like grenades, armor. Some changes from previous CS games is the ability to purchase bomb defusal kits, which is a must being a counter-terrorist, Now they are randomly assigned to two random players on the counter-terrorist team.
If you haven’t played Counter-Strike before, Stop now and go play it and come back. Played it yet? Alright, now that you understand Terrorists are there to plant bombs or to defend hostages, and the counter-terrorists need to defuse the bombs and save all the hostages and you do not respawn when you die, you have to wait until the next round starts. You gain money at the end of the round for things that you do which include bomb plants/defuses, kills, assists, and winning the round. That money is used to purchase the guns and equipment listed above. If you save enough money, you can even purchase the brand new grenade type, the molotov cocktail.
Here’s a little tidbit that PS3 owners are going to love. On the PS3, players can use the regular controller, the PlayStation Move motion controller or even a mouse and keyboard. Which is huge news, CSS players always say that CS could never be done on console because counter-strike players feel that a keyboard and mouse are a must.
