The second huge press conference got underway with the game juggernaut Electronic Arts. And by god did they start off hot!
Mass Effect 3 is the first game they chose, and I give them props. They made a great decision. It starts with a live demo where Shepard is trying to destroy and take over a reaper base. Shepard calls in an airstrike on the base which is carried out by the Normandy. Huge explosions commence and the beast awakens. It appears that what he thought was a reaper base, was actually a GIANT reaper. The giant spider looking creature starts chasing Shepard and gets attacked by other forces on the ground. And just before you see the ending of this epic scene, it fades to black and a brand new trailer for the game is trailed codenamed “The Fall of Earth”.
Second up is Need for Speed: The Run. For those who played the newest Need for Speed hot pursuit would remember Autolog the feature that compared your races to your friends and everyone else online. But this time, they will track everything in the single player so you can argue who’s the best at absolutely everything. They introduced a new feature brand new to the entire Need for Speed series, the ability to get out of your vehicle. They show this off when you crash your car and you are trying to escape the police/the mob. It’s a lot of quick time events every time you leap from one building to another until you get in to a fist fight with a cop and steal his car, then the chase resumes with heavy fire from an incoming helicopter with guns attached to it.
Some Star Wars the old republic is shown the longest video we’ve seen thus far and my god, its amazing. It shows some huge scale battles and force powers out the wazoo. This is easily one of the most anticipated titles for all of us here at All You Need.
The screen goes to black and a new trailer starts.
The new SSX game comes on and it starts with a very pretty looking snowy mountain top with a guy hand planting on the top of a pine tree. He jumps down and starts snowboarding down the mountain with a partner weaving through trees and remnants of crashed planes. The map zips around and you see a few locations like Alaska and the Himalayans. The game promises to have real mountains modeled after the real thing via satellite picture technology. Along with this they released the names of three modes or different ways of going down the mountains. Race it, Trick it, and Survive it.
Next up is the hugely popular Fifa 12. It’s said it “Will be themost authentic Fifa ever”. They introduced some brand new features like “Tactical Defending” allowing the defender more tools to stop the ball carrier. “Precision dribbling” which allows the ball carrier to take smaller steps to get yourself into the best position possible to fire one past the goalie. And “Player Impact engine” which gives real physics to the collisions. The video played showed celebrities like Drake, Lil’ wayne, and Chad Ochocinco talking about how much they love it. And actual players showing that they play the game to practice. They also introduced a brand new social network called the “Football Club” it connects you to your friends and the real outcomes of soccer matches across the world. Where you can re enact the games and change the outcomes to your liking. It allows you to connect fifa versions from the Ipad/ipod/facebook/other consoles and the xbox360 and ps3.
Madden 12 is up next and to show off the game, they brought Ray Lewis, Payton Hillis (cover athlete) and Clay Matthews from the superbowl champions Greenbay Packers. They talk about how awesome they are and learn about the new collision system, new AI, and dynamic player performance. Oh and the release date is shown, August 30th.
The Sims Social. A brand new sims game on Facebook, where you can invite your friends to interact with you in your own virtual house.
Curt Schilling comes up with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The trailer is shown off with some cool looking battles with swords and magic. And big boss battles. Be on the lookout for this title coming in 2012.
Insomniac shows us OverStrike which follows 4 agents that use tech gadgets to mess stuff up. The game is very reminiscent of Team Fortress especially the art style.
10 minutes of gameplay rocked our worlds all over the place. With award winning video rendering for facial animations and award winning sound this game is sure to be game of the year. We start off in a convoy of tanks running through the desert on our way to an enemy base that’s firing anti air missiles. When all of a sudden you get flanked by an enemy convoy of tanks, an all out battle takes place and as the victor, you move on towards the base. You take control of an above view plane marking the battery of the anti air gun and blowing it up. You invade the base and kill off everyone who is left inside. And it ends. We see some multiplayer gameplay that takes place on a map in Paris. The environments are even destructible ONLINE! They are doing an open beta in September for the multiplayer. The game looks very impressive and it’s dated for release on October 25th.
