Return of the King.
Many of our readers probably don’t know the extent to which I’m a massive fan of Halo. I have strong memories of 4-player deathmatch on my eleventh birthday, made throngs of good friends with the premiere of Halo 2 on Xbox Live, and rode through the heartbreak that was Halo 4. Countless books, films, fan videos, and a horde of culture has been pouring from this game from day one, and it’s by no surprise that the torrent isn’t stopping any time soon.
In the Fall of 2015, 343i Studios has announced for launch of Halo 5: Guardians. Promising a “bigger effort than Halo 4,” the developers have voiced their desire to produce the latest Halo title “with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade.” The media released (below) features the Chief standing as the reflection of some new and unknown character, sporting what could be MJOLNIR power armor alongside the classic BR55HB SR Battle Rifle. Or something else entirely, who knows. With the aim of 60 FPS visuals, dedicated online servers, and an entirely new engine, Halo 5: Guardians could shape up to be the greatest title in the line-up.
The most interesting tidbit about this announcement is 343i’s tease at 2014. While Halo 5 itself will not be released until the Fall of 2015, the developers have stated that “the journey” will begin in 2014. A journey that begins “with a giant leap, rather than one small step.” Whether this might mean some sort of film, or perhaps the long wished-for Halo 2: Anniversary, we don’t know. What I do know is oh god I’m so excitebike.
