Halo: Master Chief Collection shipped pretty damned broken. How Microsoft and 343 managed to pull that one off is another story. The bright side is that after several (ugh) patches, the game is pretty much running how it should be. 343 promised compensation for all users who played the game between launch and this announcement (12/19/14). Spartan Ops from Halo 4 also recently launched in a content update. Bonnie Ross, head of 343, gave a detailed “Thank You” as to what these users will get over at Xbox News:
- One month of Xbox Live Gold
- Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
- Exclusive In-Game Avatar
While the XBL Gold month makes sense, the exclusive in-game stuff is kinda weird, don’t you think? It’s basically a nameplate and avatar saying “I got owned by Microsoft.”
Regardless, two more (and better) things are being given out for free as well. These are:
- Halo 3 ODST Campaign – complete HD remaster at 1080p, 60 FPS
- “Relic” Halo 2 Anniversary Map
Obviously, the two things above were planned as paid DLC, but when everything went nuts, they decided to just make it free for the users who played in that time frame. Pretty cool of them to do that, but it certainly doesn’t excuse how broken this game shipped. Hopefully Halo 5 is a much different story, and you have to imagine it will be.
The satisfaction and joy of our fans is absolutely critical to everyone at 343 Industries and we regret the issues and the frustration you have endured. We are truly sorry and thank you for your continued patience and support of the Halo franchise.
