Just announced this morning, Microsoft has confirmed that an Xbox One without Kinect will be coming to market. This is absolutely huge news considering the sales numbers of the Xbox One in comparison to the PlayStation 4. It’s been a long standing stance of consumers that Microsoft could drop the Kinect and sell the console for $399.99 instead of its current $499.99 price.
Microsoft is responding to all of those people who want more choices when it comes to the Xbox One and even though 80% of Xbox One users are actively using Kinect, they understand not everyone wants one. (although that “Xbox On” command is pretty sweet) So it’s officially coming, a Kinect-less Xbox One console will be coming to stores for $399.99! But those who wish to have the Kinect can still purchase the current Xbox One bundle for $499.99. But don’t fret if you’ve purchased the $399.99 version and you decide that you want a Kinect, Microsoft will be selling a separate sensor for the Xbox One for about $100 which is set to come out later this fall. Microsoft wants to be absolutely clear that their vision of the future still very much revolves around the Kinect, so expect to see more titles that use the Kinect coming in the future.
Microsoft is aiming to give the consumers what they want, and it looks like their sales numbers haven’t been up to snuff, at least compared to their largest competitor. I imagine that this price drop will see huge sales this year which is perfect for the upcoming lineup of titles already announced and those to be announced at E3 2014. Just check out the rumored topics for both Sony and Microsoft at E3 2014.
