Plantronics, the name just brings back memories of high end audio equipment and headsets for telephones and nobody uses those anymore. Plantronics has gotten with the times and added some sweet gaming audio products and while you might not be familiar with them now, you will be very soon.

In all of my years I’ve played the Xbox 360 I’ve always heard “I love my Turtle Beaches” and that brand has become synonymous with online gamers. Well I’m here to get more of them to say “These Plantronics are awesome”. And with the Plantronics GameCom X95 Gaming Headset it’s going to be a whole lot easier.

The GameCom X95 is Plantronics’ high-end wireless Xbox 360 headset that doesn’t break the bank. Coming in at a MSRP of $99 you’re getting a whole lot of headset for not a lot of money. The packaging contains the headset, a USB dongle that connects to one of your 360’s USB ports and two pass-through stereo out plugs. The headset runs off of two (AAA) batteries that are hidden under the right cup. Also on that right cup is a volume control knob that controls the overall sound of the headset, and the power button. On the left cup there is a microphone mute switch and a volume knob for the microphone. This gives you the ability to turn down your screaming teammates and turn up the explosions. Connected to the headset is the microphone that slides down for use and up to hide it away. There is also one semi-short cable that connects to the bottom of the Xbox 360 controller to chat it up with everyone you want.

The build quality of the GameCom X95 is superb; the headset is crafted from high quality plastics and plush foam that will be sure to give you years of comfortable gaming. Speaking of the comfort, I was able to wear this headset for extended gaming sessions without having to take them off or re-adjust. Basically, they’re super comfy and you soon forget you’re wearing them, before being instantly reminded by the awesome sounds of games like Battlefield 3. The headset is designed to be an over the ear headset and even with my large ears I didn’t have any problems with wearing them.

I am relatively new to headsets for the Xbox 360, never owning a pair of the competitor’s products but after using the X95’s I have no reason to look elsewhere. After hooking these bad boys up I booted up my favorite game, NHL12. And to be completely honest, I wasn’t really impressed. I had remembered hearing that Battlefield 3 had great audio and wanted to see if it was true. Soon after booting up Battlefield 3 a big smile came to my face when I started hearing things I had never heard before. Little sounds that my television speakers could never output were soon filling my ears and it was great. I jumped into a game and heard the unique boom of a M1 Abrams tank firing off a round into a building. That’s when my jaw dropped. I was mesmerized, I couldn’t stop playing. This headset breathed a new life in to a game that I was sure I wouldn’t pick up for a while. During all of this time talking with friends I never once heard any objections to the quality of the microphone, which is more than I can say to friends who own competitor products.

The X95’s not only deliver awesome sound quality, but being wireless they have come in handy in so many situations. I could see these being used in any situation where you don’t want to be waking up any roommates or family members with the sounds of gunfire and explosions. The X95’s really make you feel connected to the game in a way that you’ve probably never felt before. If you’re looking for big sound on a small budget, look no further than the Plantronics GameCom X95 Gaming Headset.

*Note  The headset is wireless and like any other wireless device is prone to interference, some users have reported their Wi-Fi signal interfering with the use of the headset, If you can, try changing the wireless to a different channel of the spectrum.
