Blizzard’s hero-based shooter had no official release date, although we were sure it was releasing this spring, but because of some overzealous web team over at IGN; we now know that there’s an official release date, May 24th 2016.
It’s not out of the ordinary for someone to leak a trailer, or some images of an upcoming game but this is probably one of the first times that a game’s release date has been leaked by a full site image of an advertisement.
I’m sure that Blizzard were planning to do something a bit bigger with the announcement of their highly anticipated title, Overwatch, Blizzard is known for their great CGI trailers and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see something announcing the release date in that form, but this leak may have ruined it.
Here’s what the front page of IGN looked like when they had applied the advertising skin. They have since taken it down and are currently running a plain white background.
It is important to note that this date isn’t official yet, but this leak is pretty clear that this date is correct. Overwatch is currently in the second phase of its closed beta, and according to the advertisement, those who preorder Overwatch will get early access to another beta in May, which is essentially going to be a finished product and glorified demo.
